ABACAB

The album cover art for ABACAB by Bill Smith, showcasing one of his most revered album covers for one of the world’s biggest bands: Genesis.

“On that particular record, we were trying to get away from what was, at that point, traditionally Genesis and to go to something that was much more stark and abstract”
Tony Banks

Here it is revisited by Bill in a series of four limited edition archival inkjet prints. Each edition of 25 features a different colourway. The original album cover artwork was born of a little torn paper sketch that Mike Rutherford noticed in Bill’s sketchbook.

“Mike Rutherford picked up what I laughingly called my sketchbook, leafing through he stopped at a page and almost shouted Eureka! ‘love this, look everyone’. It was a small collage of torn pieces of coloured Pantone swatches, with a couple of black ink squiggles around them. Everyone agreed it would be the cover, ” OK, now get it done!” So, my little 25mm square collage became the cover for an album that sold 2 million copies worldwide and inch for inch became my best paid job ever.”

Bill has re-worked that image into this beautiful series which can be purchased individually or as a fabulous set of four.

Customers wishing to purchase all four prints can do so for the price of three by entering the code ABACAB upon checkout. Please ensure you add all four prints to your basket in order to validate the code and receive your discount.
