An Introduction to Syd Barrett

Only a few copies signed by Storm Thorgerson are left of this large, limited edition album art print which exhibits the extraordinary colours and fantastical imagery designed by Storm for An Introduction to Syd Barrett.

This was a compilation album which brought the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett together for the first time and featured the previously-unreleased 20-minute instrumental Rhamadan. Such a release was deserving of a special cover and Storm sure provided one.

“Firstly, to be vivid and colourful to reflect Syd’s creative imagination. Secondly, to be varied and diverse, which is why there are illustrations to all his songs, and thirdly to hint at the darker, sadder side of Syd’s life, hence the mirror which is not a mirror, the feather trees of autumn, and the escaping swan, breaking free from the confines of upbringing and education”. Storm Thorgerson

Storm’s teddy bear fetish pops up again here too, evoking teddy bears picnics and park life. Printed in archival inkjet on a beautiful Hahnemühle paper in characteristically crisp colour by Stuart Nicholls at Rockarchive.
