Funhouse

This limited edition print commemorates the original photographic artwork for the cover of Fun House by Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

Released on July 7, 1970, by Elektra Records, Funhouse had been recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles in May 1970, with producer Don Gallucci aiming to capture the band’s live performance energy by stripping the studio of its usual equipment and soundproofing. It is both striking and provocative.

Iggy Pop is captured in a contorted pose, bathed in red light evocative of nightclubs and even suggesting hellfire. A sense of chaos and intensity mirrors the wild and unrestrained spirit of the band. The red lighting and Iggy Pop’s pose suggest an exorcism or transformation, aligning with the album’s themes of rebellion and raw emotion.

Fun House is considered a seminal work in the development of punk rock, blending elements of proto-punk, hard rock, and experimental rock. The cover by Ed Caraeff vividly represents the album’s raw and intense energy.
