2Pac Mugshot

This limited edition screen print continues David Studwell’s Heroes and Villains series with Tupac Shakur. Shakur poses for a mug shot for the New York State Department of Corrections after a conviction on March 8, 1995 in New York, New York.

Studwell’s work focusses on celebrity and the dark side of fame. His mugshot series explores the vulnerabilities and flaws of celebrities often hidden from public view but highlighted in these raw and public images; revealing cracks in the people we hold in such high esteem. As Tupac himself said, “I feel like role models today are not meant to be put on a pedestal, but more like angels with broken wings.”
