This Strawbs album cover design is one of a collection of archival inkjet prints that we released in 2014, celebrating previously unpublished album cover art from the Hipgnosis archives. Aubrey Powell explains:

“A man is lured to a remote spot to answer a phone call only to find nobody on the line, the door jammed and the phone box slowly filling up with water. He will slowly drown and, no doubt, miss his deadline! As was often the case, Hipgnosis sold an idea and then had to work out how to do it within the budget. We had a, very expensive, reinforced steel and glass phone box built in my back garden in Wandsworth but forgot to ask them to fit a drain hole! The glass wasn’t strong enough and the first attempt to fill the tank erupted in a burst pane and Hipgnosis being showered in shards of glass. It was also midwinter and there was no access to warm water. The man, a friend who was a competent swimmer but no stunt man, became stuck during one take and nearly drowned.”
